Precision Jig for PCB Assembly

CircuitWorks Manufacturing
Interview Opportunity
Due December 15, 2025

Design a precision assembly jig for securing PCBs during component placement and soldering operations.

Problem Statement

Create a modular jig system that can accommodate different PCB sizes while maintaining precise alignment during manual assembly. The jig should allow easy PCB insertion/removal and provide access to both sides.

Requirements

  • Accommodate PCBs from 50mm × 50mm to 200mm × 150mm
  • Positioning accuracy: ±0.1mm
  • Quick-release clamping mechanism
  • Rotation capability for double-sided work
  • ESD-safe materials

Constraints

  • Aluminum construction (6061-T6)
  • Maximum footprint: 300mm × 300mm
  • Must be manufacturable on standard 3-axis CNC
  • Budget: < $200 for materials and machining

Deliverables

  • STEP files with detailed dimensions
  • 2D drawings with tolerances
  • BOM with sourcing recommendations
  • Assembly instructions
